Protection with inert gas  [ Return towards  Chemicals & Petrochemicals  ]

You want to avoid constitution of explosive atmospheres during storage, transfer, treatment and conditioning of your flammable products, secure your facilities (silos, spin-dryers, reactor shell), or protect your fragile products against oxidization and humidity?

Nitrogen is the inert gas generally used for such applications.

Carbon dioxide is suitable for operations of fire extinction and in cases where acidic properties of this gas are more especially requested.

Safety

When you store flammable products, explosion can occur when the following three elements take place together:

  • presence of flammable steams or dusts (fuels)
  • presence of oxygen from the air (comburant)
  • source of ignition (generally, static electricity, hardly controllable)

Nitrogen injection in gaseous atmosphere on top of a container replaces the air and decreases the oxygen concentration, avoiding explosion risks or humidity take up. Air Liquide proposes a range of Vestal equipment that will automatically protect your installation.

Quality

Pure, clean, perfectly dry and inert, nitrogen protects your products:

No oxygen: your product does not oxidize
No humidity: powders do not agglomerate and your product does not chemically degrade during storage or further processing
No pollutant: absence of oil traces, very high pressure therefore no risk of backflow pollution

Nitrogen must be used with care.
